WOW you take the word "psychiatry" out of your comment and you're describing $cientology to a T!!
"and it is individuals sucking in tax money by the billions for “research” which never accomplishes any results. Those needs to be examined, made accountable for their “results” and they need to show that they factually can help. IMHO, Psychiatry is the most ridiculous belief system I have ever seen. Lots of mysticism, white coats and all, lots of belief needed to see ANY changes to the better. And lots of blindness needed NOT to see the screaming abuses this ideology brought about."

You have no possibility to check my quote? Okay, it happened on October 7, 1995, Scientology's Chairman of the Board, David Miscavige, spoke to tens of thousands of Scientologists around the world. He set a goal for Scientologists - destroying psychiatry in five years.

I am sorry that you feel embarrassed because of me. That is not my intent.

Still, a lot of Scientologists are engaged to get rid of psychiatric abuses, not some undefined "psychiatry", which is an ideology not people. It is individuals who rape patients under the cloak of "help" and it is individuals sucking in tax money by the billions for "research" which never accomplishes any results. Those needs to be examined, made accountable for their "results" and they need to show that they factually can help. IMHO, Psychiatry is the most ridiculous belief system I have ever seen. Lots of mysticism, white coats and all, lots of belief needed to see ANY changes to the better. And lots of blindness needed NOT to see the screaming abuses this ideology brought about. If "DM" says in an event - and I have no possibility to check if your quote is correct - that psychiatry should be eliminated, he is talking about their abuses and their numerous attempts to sell snake oil.

You might not like the style of these speeches (and I do understand that), but why don't you have a look at the FACTS.

louanne, you COMPLETELY avoided my post re: D.M. mission. You are completely discrediting yourself on this site, it's embarrassing. This quote DOES NOT say his goal is to end "psychiatric abuse"
Objective Two - eliminate psychiatry in all its forms. Let’s get rid of psychiatry.

IN ALL ITS FORMS. Lets see you try to put a spin on a direct quote that IS NOT taken out of context or any other bullshit.

"The (alleged) inherent danger of psychiatry is a key point of faith in the Scientology(TM) religion."

Wrong. Scientology doctrine does not mention psychiatry or does any reference to it aside from maybe that Scientology has nothing in common with it.

"it is reasonable to assume that Tom Cruise’s opposition to psychiatry is a consequence of his involvement in the “Church” of Scientology(TM)."

Which is a nice rhetoric trick to avoid dealing with facts and arguments but rather talk about some obscure, esoteric "reasons" why the talk happens at all. This might be an "A" for avoiding the issue but is a clear "F" for critical think and objective observation.

"Not everyone who is anti-psychiatry is a Scientologist(TM)."

That is certainly observable. There are many people who despise psychiatric abuses.

"But everyone who is a Scientologist(TM) is anti-psychiatry."

Incorrect. Every Scientologist is opposing psychiatric abuses just like any other human rights abuse. The key term here is "psychiatric abuse" not "psychiatry" which is an ideology and not an activity.

"So when Tom Cruise makes anti-psychiatry statements, and one examines the reason for those statements, one is naturally led to examine the “Church” of Scientology(TM), for better or worse."

Only by those who like to engage in finger pointing to avoid dealing with facts and arguments. OKAIN, I thought you had an open mind for things but this indicates a certain unwillingness to look at facts and deal with them.

Oy. Let's be clear about something here. The (alleged) inherent danger of psychiatry is a key point of faith in the Scientology(TM) religion. Thus, in the absence of evidence to the contrary, it is reasonable to assume that Tom Cruise's opposition to psychiatry is a consequence of his involvement in the "Church" of Scientology(TM). To put it in simple syllogistic terms:

Not everyone who is anti-psychiatry is a Scientologist(TM).
But everyone who is a Scientologist(TM) is anti-psychiatry.

So when Tom Cruise makes anti-psychiatry statements, and one examines the reason for those statements, one is naturally led to examine the "Church" of Scientology(TM), for better or worse.

Louanne, I don't think I'm alone in seeing that you are seriously embarrassing yourself. Tom Cruise was on a mission via the COS on the Today SHow, and to try to spin it otherwise is only destroying your credibility here
In 1969, L. Ron Hubbard wrote a confidential memo to his wife, then head of Scientology's espionage branch, called "The War". In it, he envisioned Scientologists destroying psychiatry and replacing it with Scientology:

"Our war has been forced to become 'To take over absolutely the field of mental healing on this planet in all forms. ... Our total victory will come when we run [the psychiatrist's] organisations, perform his functions and obtain his financing and appropriations."

On October 7, 1995, Scientology's Chairman of the Board, David Miscavige, spoke to tens of thousands of Scientologists around the world. He set a goal for Scientologists - destroying psychiatry in five years:

"There are a lot of opinions out there as to what is wrong with Earth, 1995. But if you really want to eliminate those problems all you have to do is work for the objectives that we, as members of the IAS, have set for the year 2000: Objective One - place Scientology at the absolute forefront of Society. Objective Two - eliminate psychiatry in all its forms. Let's get rid of psychiatry, and let's bring Scientology to every man, woman and child on this planet."

"Anti-psychiatry and $cientology are the same thing."

Ouch. No there is actually - in real life, with real Scientologists - no relation between "anti-psychiatry" and "Scientology". Anti-Psychiatry ideas are that psychiatry is harming people under the guise of "help". Scientology is about helping people. In the interview with Lauer Cruise talked about abuses in psychiatry, but did not make mention of Scientology, if I remember right. Abuses in psychiatry are not hard to find and it does not take a Scientologist to uncover them.

louanne, are you kidding? "He did one interview on TV, about psychiatry not Scientology" Anti-psychiatry and $cientology are the same thing. Thats what they teach, and thats what he was preaching about on the Today show. And actually in that video, he DOES seem to be expressing a desire for a $cientology only world.........you know where SP's are something we read about in history books...you saw that , right?

A marketing campaign????? WTF????

I saw it. Now what?

The craze about Cruise's Scientology membership was mainly stirred up by media and still is. He did one interview on TV, about psychiatry not Scientology, and for three years the story ran and ran and ran. Well, Cruise did not come out and say "I am Scientologist and everybody has to be". No, from a short analysis of the media about him I would say Scientology opposition continuously promoted that. Especially Anonymous. So do you think that Anonymous is actually a marketing campaign of the Church of Scientology?
